Welcome

A little about myself...
My name is Mary and I have been breeding dogs for a little over 5 years now.
Who would have ever thought that me out of all people would become so fond of dogs yet alone breed them. Well to make a long story short, I came across a huge litter of puppies one afternoon when I was about 5 years old. Not knowing how they would react, I began calling for one of them to come to me. Well instead of just one puppy, they all came charging at me, which caught me by surprise so I started backing up as they came toward me and by the time I realized where I was at, I was hit by a car. After being hit, I was so shock that I took off running. I ran all the way home, and when I got home I changed my clothes so the driver could not recognize me.
Shortly after, the driver came through the neighborhood asking if anyone has seen a kid fitting my description run by. And of course no one did. What a relieve that was for me because I didn't want to get in trouble for being out there. I am also thankful that the accident wasn't anything serious. But because of it I was afraid of dogs or any four legged animals.
so, how did I overcome my fear?
Although I was terrified of being around dogs, I still admire them from a distant. One day a friend of mines was telling me about her dogs. So she asked if I had any dogs, so I in reply I told her the story above. She chuckles and told me that I was being silly. So after sitting there hearing about her wonderful experiences with all 10 of her dogs. She convinced me that I should get a small one so I can overcome my fear. So that was what I did. Please keep this in mind, since 15 years had passed and the little knowledge I had on where to find a dog, what to look for, etc. I began looking in newspaper ads and going to Barnes & Noble to look at the different types of dogs there is. One day I pass a pet store, so I decided to go in there and look around. I instantly fell in love with a female toy poodle that was full of life. She was not afraid to approach me or any one else. She was quite an explorer. So I went hope convince the boyfriend to purchase her for me. So we came back and got her. After doing so I headed over to PetSmart and bought all the neccessary items to start her off like a crate, food, dish, toys and so forth. Well was the the biggest mistake of my life, why you ask?
For example, when I got home I placed her on the carpet so I can put everything up. She must have never felt carpet before because she started running in circles around my feet, crying on top of her lungs which definately didn't help the situation with my fear of dogs. So I called up to the petstore and told them what had happen, and asked for a refund because I didn't feel that it was normal for her to behave in such a manner. Their response to me was that "livestock" are non-refundable and they can only be exchange if the vet finds her health to be unacceptable.
At this point, which was only 2 hrs from the time of purchase, I was so frustrated and terrified of whats to come. So I starting googling on pet stores and where their "livestock" comes from. I was so heartbroken and could not believe my eyes on what I just seen. I could not believe that so many "puppy mills" exist and the cruelty placed upon these animals so they can make an extra buck or two. So from that point on, I vow to never ever buy from a pet store again nor I support any puppy mills or brokers dealing with animals. I am not going to go into much detail, but if you click on the link provided, you will know where I am coming from. The picturs says it all. All it take is one person to make a difference, rather it starts with me or you, as long as I can touch another person with the reality of "puppy mills", I would be satisfied with just knowing that I had played a part in letting the truth be known about"puppy mills" and hopefully we can get pass this one day.
and a few advice to leave with you:
If you are in the market for a new puppy or companion, whatever you do please don't buy one from a petstore. Take the time to do some research on the breeder/kennel. Don't be afraid to ask lots and lots of questions. From my own personal experience, buying a dog from a petstore versus buying one for a reputable breeder, makes a huge difference. I can only speak from my own situation, but what I have learn is that animals from petstores lack the social skills probably due to them being taking for their mom and litter way to early, they are hard to train(maybe because after being shipped to the petstore, they throw all the puppies together in a small confined area where they eat, sleep, play, and use the restroom, they are jealous and very possesive, making them unsafe around other pets and children. And the list goes on...So please before you pull out your wallet and cash out your savings to buy that cute little puppy in the window, look around, do some research, because I can promise you that you won't regret it. Also remember that most of the dogs that ends up in the animal shelters are usually due to the fact that they were untrainable, and most likely came from a pet store.
and let the journey begin...
